Can dogs eat durian or jackfruit?

This is a question we get sometimes at in-person events.

The short answer is – YES dogs can eat durian and jackfruit. We made sure of it before we included it into our very popular treats.

The longer answer is more nuanced.

Durian and Jackfruit are fruits that are naturally high in sugar and carbohydrates, alongside their natural nutrients and vitamins. For this reason, while our dogs can enjoy these fruits in their natural form, they should only be given in small quantities.

It is for this reason of feeding in moderation that when we put these fruits in our treats, we keep it to a maximum of 20-30% of the recipe (depending on the fruit). Our treats that contain these fruits are made into thin crisps, or small cubes to allow for portion control and treating over time.

The real danger in putting these fragrant (or pungent) fruits into our treats is stopping the pawrents from eating the treats themselves because the treats smell so good!
